I've used SWconnect and SpotWalla for a few years now, and haven't had a problem with tracks until recently. If I create a new track in SpotWalla, the track immediately shows up in my list of tracks on the SpotWalla web site, and I can add the new track to an active trip, but the track doesn't have any data.
If I go to my tracks and click on a recent one and download Source GeoJSON, it's just a header with no coordinates.
I don't know what changed, other than maybe an auto-update of SWconnect. Are tracks still working for everyone else?
A few months ago Spotwalla website changed their mapping platform from Google Maps to Mapbox. Unfortunately that transition broke tracks. Jason, the owner of Spotwalla is aware of the issue, and we have communicated several times about it. He's working on some new stuff, so it's not likely that tracks will get fixed in the very near future. I do feel it will ultimately be fixed, but I cannot say when that will be.
Evidently the transition to Mapbox meant that the track data had to be changed from the Google format called "KML", and now it needs to be converted into GEO/JSON format. I know he made a quick try to fix it, but it was a more difficult change than anticipated.
It's interesting that you have old trips that do work. I just went back through a half dozen old trips. Interestingly several had been converted to Geo/JSON format, however they did not display, either on my trip, or by going to the tracks manager and picking "Display on Map".
I am sorry that it's not working, hopefully it will be fixed soon. I will say I'm happy to find someone was actually using the track support I added to SWConnect. I put a lot of work into that, and only know of one other person ever using it. Well, actually I have had a couple of customer support queries about it since, but it doesn't appear to be widely used, or known.
Yeah, the tracks are what make the twisty mountain roads look really cool on the map! An every-5-minute drop flattens out all the curves and twists, so I like to show the track, too.
I appreciate the work you've put into the app. It's been very useful for me and all my riding friends. They know they can depend on me to map our ride, and before starting out they always ask for the Spotwalla link to share with their wives.
Quick question while I've got you: I always gave SWconnect GPS permissions "only when running", partly so I could be sure it wasn't running to converse battery, and partly paranoia. And it always worked fine in that mode. I just looked for the blue bar at the top to know an app was using my GPS. But the current version requires it to have GPS access "always". How come? I've just started going into Privacy/Location and giving "always" permission when I'm on a ride, and then change ti back to "only when running" after the ride.
